Water Baptism
Water Baptism will be taught to you in the local church. Jesus says, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved." The word "baptism" is a Greek word which literally means "immersion" or "burial."
It takes a lot of water for you to be immersed. This is why a local church uses a baptismal tank or an outdoor body of water. John the Baptist baptized Jesus in exactly the same manner.
What is the significance of baptism? Not only is baptism an act of direct obedience to the words of Jesus, but it is also an outward act that describes what has happened on the inside.
When we are baptized, we are buried with Christ, meaning that we have died to the old life with its lusts and ungodly ideas.
When you are lowered into the water, it is this burial that is symbolized. When you are then raised out of the water, it symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus.
Just as He rose from the dead, you are raised into a new life. You are a new person, a new creation in Him.
Don't put off water baptism. According to the Bible, the one who waited the longest to be baptized was the Apostle Paul.
He waited only three days. Water baptismal services are always powerful and are filled with God's favor and blessing.
