Power of Words
Power of Words. Before I gave my
life to the Lord in year 2000, I was a foul-mouthed person. I did not
know much about the power that comes with our words. Every second to
third word that came out of me were foul swear-words. When I now, think
of all the filth that used to come out of my mouth, I cringe. I just
can not imagine what my lovely wife had to put up with. No wonder my
family life was a mess.
The Bible tells us in the book of
Proverbs that wise people’s words are few. They only talk on what is
important. They are fully mindful of the Power of Words. Proverbs 17:27
says, "He who has knowledge uses few words; a man of understanding is
of an excellent spirit."
We must not under-estimate the Power of Words. Our words are containers. They can either build or
destroy. Proverbs 16:24 tells us, "pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul, and health to the bones". Words can be medicinal to
our bodies.
Proverbs 17:28 tells us, "even a
fool, when he is silent, is counted wise, and he who shuts his lips is
counted as a man of understanding".
I have found that when I am angry,
it is better to keep quiet. Which sometimes can be hard to uphold. We
always want to justify ourselves in everything. Proverbs 18:7, A fool's
mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
The Bible tells us that we will be
responsible for every idle words we utter. We must treat our mouths
like a loaded gun. It can be destructive if we do not have control over
it.
Proverbs 18:20 says, "a man's belly
shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; he shall be satisfied
with the product of his lips. (Verse 21) also warns us that, " . . .
death and life are in the power of the tongue. . . "
Beloveds, let us be mindful of what
we say. Our words can be destructive and bring death without us
knowing. On the other hand it can build and give health and life to
people. May our Loving God bless us all and give us understanding in
this.
